Recently, it was announced that the most-streamed Tamil song of 2024 according to Spotify Wrapped was an independent track called “Katchi Sera.” Composed and performed by Sai Abhyankkar, “Katchi Sera” made him a household name. What added to the allure of Sai Abhyankkar is that he is the son of singers Tippu and Harini. In what has come as a major shot in the arm in the young composer’s career, Sai Abhyankkar has been roped in as the music director of Suriya’s next with RJ Balaji. Incidentally, the film, tentatively titled as Suriya 45, was initially launched with AR Rahman as the composer.
In a new announcement poster, Dream Warrior Pictures, who are backing the project, revealed that Sai Abhyankkar is the new composer. They also revealed that GK Vishnu, known for his collaborations with Atlee, will be working in Suriya 45. Incidentally, this is the first time Vishnu is working in a full-length Tamil film that is not directed by Atlee.
This announcement comes on the heels of speculations that AR Rahman is taking a hiatus from composing music for a few months. Although the legendary composer’s daughter Khatija Rahman dismissed this speculation, Sai Abhyankkar replacing him has sparked renewed debate. However, there are reports suggesting that it was just scheduling conflicts that lead to the change. Also, Sai is set to make his debut as a music director in Raghava Lawrence’s Benz, which is the next film in the much-hyped Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe.
Apart from Suriya 45, the Kanguva actor recently finished working for Suriya 44, helmed by Karthik Subbaraj. Suriya 45 marks the first collaboration between the actor and RJ Balaji, who previously helmed films like Mookuthi Amman and Veetla Vishesham. As an actor, Balaji, who was recently seen in Sorgavaasal, is starring in debut director Ammamuthu Surya’s Happy Ending.
